So we’re 8 days in to 2020.

I’m already seeing posts from people who are giving up on their resolutions, others haven’t started yet because they’ve still got Christmas goodies in the house.

What’s happened with the ones who are already dropping out?

In my opinion, they over-complicated things or went for a goal they didn’t really believe in or research properly.

It’s easy to overcomplicate things, particularly in the food and fitness world.

I’m switching software on our websites at the moment and spent hours at the weekend getting a page to look good, I really enjoyed tinkering with the little gadgets etc.  However, I only got one page done.  What I needed to do was master the basics then worked on the making things look good.

Diet and exercise should be the same.

It doesn’t matter that your macro’s, micro-nutrients, hip ratio’s, FTP’s, VO2Max or plant based is on point for 2 days per week if the basics are stuffed the rest of the time.

To get results the basics need to be right consistently.

At Achieve Bootcamp, we started a 7 week block on Monday.  In the past we’ve encouraged our members to jump straight in to ‘eating clean’.  We know that it works and the results are awesome.

We’ve made it pretty easy to follow.

However, since having our kids we’ve realised that a few basics can get pretty good results longer term.

This week I’ve asked our members to think about these 5 basic rules.

1.  Drink 2 litres of water per day.

2.  Aim to be in bed by 10.00pm and asleep by 10.30pm.

3.  Eat more vegetables.

4.  Be aware of calories, look at tracking foods for a few days.  I use myfitnesspal.

5.  Move every day and ideally sweat a little.  Our Yoga sun salutation is a good 5 minute stretch and mini workout.

That’s it.  Nothing fancy.

In fact when people ask about working with me 1-1, I ask them to do the top 3 for 7 days before we meet up.  If they can’t commit to that, we’re probably not going to be a good fit.

Do the same over the next week and see how you get on.

If you are already thinking about quitting the resolutions / goals you set for 2020; maybe they just weren’t right for you.  Pick something that is
