Controversially, I like the Wet, Wet, Wet version the best; most likely because of the time of my life that the song reminds me of.
That’s not the point of this message though.
I’ve started a new sport recently.
One that requires you to fold somebody’s clothes neatly while they’re are still wearing them.
If that’s not possible, you try and help them go to sleep by reducing air and blood flow to their brain.
If that’s not possible, you try to get their joints to bend in the wrong direction.
If you haven’t guessed, I’ve taken up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) with my mate Graham.
We are loving it.
We met in a martial arts class over 30 years ago; he took me under his wing and helped me get my head and body around the basics. He’s doing the same now.
BJJ is pretty technical and requires a lot of practice to get the movement patterns running smoothly, especially when you have done similar stuff in the past.
As a result, I’ve recruited Michelle to practice in the mornings with me. By mornings, I mean 6am.
It’s the only time I can consistently do, just 20 minutes a few times a week is really helping on top of the class.
Repetition is the mother of all skill, and BJJ is skill dependant.
If you want to improve at anything in life it is important to surround yourself with people who can help you do it.
I love our group online bootcamps, there’s a sense of camaraderie, even though we’re all training on our own. Knowing that the group are all doing it at the same time helps you to push a little harder.
I strive to be a better Dad, I have friends and clients who inspire me through their actions. They also call me out when they think I could do better.
I’m part of an accountability group that keeps me focussed on my daily tasks.
Who can help you achieve your goals? Have you asked them?
