“The pair of glasses you put on in the morning determines how you see the rest of the day.”

Which is why it’s important to take care of yourself in the morning.

I’m not sleeping well at the minute, Poppy isn’t making it through the night without getting me up to go out in the garden.  Sometimes just to sniff the air, I think she’s missing Daisy and when she wakes during the night, she wants to find her.

On top of that the kids are wrigglers and can disturb my sleep on the rare times when Pop does sleep through.

When my alarm goes off, my first action pretty much decides how my day will run.

Sometimes I hit snooze and try to kid myself that 9 minutes more in bed will make a difference.  The child using my face as a climbing frame never factors in my fatigued haze.  On those days, I feel like I’m not getting anywhere, I’m in constant need of snacks and feel exhausted until I find my reboot button.

Most days, I have discipline.  I get straight up, brush my teeth, do 3 or 4 minutes of deep breathing and have a cold shower.  Make my coffee and review yesterday.

Then I see my first clients or online bootcamp (zoom).  Fran makes breakfast for when I’m finished and we eat and have a cup of tea while the kids have a bit of tele time.  That’s when we plan what need to get done for the day.

On these days I feel ready to take on the world.  I have purpose.

9 minutes is the difference.  Hitting that snooze button doesn’t work for me.

By getting straight up, I’m facing my reality, I’m tired but dwelling on it doesn’t help me at all.

My preference is to get my exercise done in the morning too; I haven’t quite got the discipline or to be honest the inclination to set my alarm for 5.00am to get it done before I start my day.

Fran gets her exercise done while the kids play, she ‘meets’ her sister on FaceTime and they train in the kitchen together before breakfast.  It sets her day up well.

Our morning boot campers say the same, getting their training done first thing takes the pressure off fitting it in to the day.  Sometimes a lie-in is necessary (these kids will sleep in one day I’m sure) and they follow the recorded sessions.

I’m really pleased with how well this first month of online bootcamp has gone.  We’re in our final week and everyone is noticing a big difference in their fitness and how well they move.  I trained with the evening guys on Monday and they rocked it.

If you want to fit some exercise in to your day and have some accountability for getting it done, we start next Monday 22nd June 2020.

Let me know if you have any questions.

P.P.S. I heard the top quote in a coaching group I’m part of.  One of the group Alex was leading a session on discipline and said it.  It really hit home with me and helped a lot.
