We never know what life will throw at us.

My Mum fell over this morning, she has a call band and the carers went to check her out.  They called my brothers, who called me and said they had called an ambulance.

I was teaching and called back as soon as I was finished.  The ambulance had said they could be at least another 4 hours.

The carers and my brother thought my Mum was ok, they just couldn’t get her off the floor.  They had made her comfortable and monitoring her.

I went straight over.  I did a body scan to check how everything was feeling and she seemed to be just a little bruised and shaken.

I picked her up, got her set up on her wheely walker and supported her back to her chair.
I went back again this afternoon to check she was ok.

I’ve mentioned lots of times about the fact that as we get older, I’m including myself in that, the most important aspect of fitness training is to train to perform better at every day life.

To be strong and mobile enough to be able to tackle anything life throws at you, be it picking your kids / grandkids up, playing at the park, falling over yourself or picking an old lady up off the floor.

Thankfully, I was a first aid trainer in a past life and one of my chosen sports involves picking up sweaty grown men in their pyjamas up off the floor while trying to choke them.

No old ladies were harmed while being lifted off the floor, no chokes or arm bars were attempted.

My past experience and current sport gave me the skills to help my Mum confidently.

If you’re thinking about getting fitter, stop thinking about it and get started.

You never know when you will be required to perform in life.
