I’ve been open water swimming with K and a couple of friends this morning.  It was amazing to be back in a lake and good practice for her as we will be swimming in the lakes, waterfalls and rivers of Wales on holiday soon.

Her confidence needs a little boost when swimming in the really deep bits but I love how excited she is to do open water swimming.

When we first got the kids nearly six years ago, they were pretty scared of water following previous trauma.  It took us nearly two years to wash hair without major meltdowns each time. A is a promising little swimmer but is struggling to put his face in still.

We simply persevered and little by little we’re getting there.

I speak to too many people who have tried a new food or type of exercise and have decided it’s not for them after a single session.  While I don’t believe you should keep going indefinitely, I do think you need to give everything a decent go.

With food, it takes about 7 exposures / tastes of something to get used to / begin to like it; processed stuff uses science trickery to get you in in one go.

Think back to when you first tried booze, it probably didn’t taste great at the time, it had a purpose though and you put up with the taste to get merry.  You then develop a taste for different types and enjoy the flavours rather than simply aiming to get steaming.

A gym I teach at has recently changed their coffee supplier, my first cup was horrendous. Unfortunately, I don’t have much time on the morning I work there and recently it’s been my only option.

Last week, it wasn’t bad.  My taste buds are developing to that brand.

It’s a little different for exercise, maybe you try a class and don’t enjoy it because the instructor is having an off day.  It’s worth giving it another go.

If you don’t enjoy it then, find something else.

We need to move to be healthy, there are literally thousands of options to do so.  Find the one that floats your boat and you get more from than the exercise itself.

What food do you know is good for you but you haven’t tried as an adult?
