Win the day. That’s what I’ve read a lot on social media this week and I sort of agree.
You don’t need to be part of the 5am club or have minute by minute precision but having a structure to your morning can make a really big difference to how you experience the day.
Some simple things can really help. A big one for me is not hitting the snooze button. When I do, I might get a few minutes extra in bed but it never adds to how rested I feel; maybe it’s different if you haven’t got a kid bouncing on your ribs asking if it’s time to go downstairs yet.
When downstairs, I make me and Fran a peppermint tea and have a look at the day planner and then set my intentions / journal. My journal is just a list of questions that sets the mood for the day, the 4 most important tasks to complete and what things may cause stress and what I could do about that in advance.
I’ll then work for an hour or two before coffee and breakfast. Some mornings that work includes some exercise.
I’ve struggled with the not hitting the snooze button for a few months and have rushed about a bit before work, I’m using New Year’s motivation to not hit it tomorrow morning and want to do a morning meditation before work. Something I heard recently was to set an intention for a meditation before you start based on the journaling and I’m keen to give it a go.
I check in with my accountability group before 10am every day, to let them know what my 4 things are for the day and watch their check ins as they come in.
Nothing ground breaking there but I feel much better in my head when I follow that routine, my day seems to flow better and I don’t get triggered.
Sundays are pretty much the same but instead of work, I get out on my bike with some friends, fingers and toes were cold this morning but the sunrise made it worth it.
