“🎵Just switch off your television set and go out and do something less boring instead🎶” was how the TV programme of our youth put it.
With literally thousands of different channels, I think TV is less boring now but the sentiment is still true.
There was a whole section on the news earlier about people phoning in sick to work so they could binge watch something on Netflix. Have we become too dependent on screens to entertain us and lost the ability to entertain ourselves.
Don’t get me wrong, I love to settle down in the evening to watch TV, this week we’re trying to watch all of the Harry Potter films before our timetables start back properly next week.
However, I can’t imagine phoning in sick from work to watch something made up on TV. Phoning in sick used to be reserved for going to the beach or ludicrous hangovers where it wasn’t safe to drive to work.
We try to get outside everyday, this morning we walked down the canal to feed the ducks, although there weren’t many around today, just a couple of swans and a Canadian goose.
Most of us blame lack of time for not achieving our goals. I know it certainly affects me as I try to fit too many different things in to the day / week/ month.
Yet, if we’re brutally honest with ourselves, we have the time, we simply choose to prioritise other things to spend it on.
A workout doesn’t have to take hours, you can get a workout done in less than 10 minutes. 10 minutes done every day, beats one hour rarely done.
There are lots of fresh food recipes that take very little time to prepare, soups, stews and curries can be super nutritious and pretty much slapped in a pot and left. Always great when the temperatures drop too.
If you have set some stuff to achieve this year and actually want to see them through, you might just need to switch your day around to accommodate the work required rather than trying to fit more in.
