At the weekend, I led a group up Mount Snowdon to raise money for Coventry and Warwickshire Mind.

We were blessed with amazing weather the whole day, if anything it was a little too warm.

Views from the summit of Snowdon vary from spectacular to barely being able to see your hands because of cloud cover and rain.

On Saturday, we got the spectacular version.  So did lots of other people, I’ve never known the mountain to be so busy.

A couple of the group found the walk really difficult, I offered my usual patience and “you’ll be alright” advice as we took a few steps and had a little rest.  Repeated until we were reached the top.

With about 100m to go, someone pointed out that they were in fact only half way there, as they had to make the return journey.  Doubt started to creep in, again I assured “you’ll be alright”.

The thoughts and words of others can really affect how you tackle the tasks at hand, a coach’s role is to enable you to see through that and simply follow the process.

That and the promise of an ice cream or cold beer at the bottom, was all that was needed.

We all have doubts.

We all feel judged.

We can all surround ourselves with people who support us and alleviate those feelings.

The team I led up the mountain were great at that, it made my job easy.

Find a way to spend time with people that enhance you and build you up.  That could be as simple as starting a new hobby or joining a group.

Being in the mountains and by the sea always boosts my mojo; if only we could stop the car kick offs when stuck in traffic on the M6 🤪
