There’s a lot to be said for keeping things simple when it comes to fitness and food.
The “health” industry seems to be designed to keep it confusing; the aim to promote a special tea, new workout, diet or magic potion that will be the solution to all of your problems with a convenient monthly fee.
Over the past couple of days I’ve been clearing some space on my computer and tidying up some old website stuff. I came across some of our old programmes.
I’m really pleased and proud to say we still follow the same principles. Our message has been consistent over the past 20+ years of working in the fitness industry.
No jumping on bandwagons or changing our message to suit somebody else’s agenda.
And the beauty of it.
Our principles are simple.
Water – drinking the correct amount for you.
Attitude – without working on mindset and mental health everything else is irrelevant long term.
Real food – we used to aim for 100%, this is the main bit that has changed. More a focus on aiming for more vegetables in your current plan and going from there.
Rest, recovery and regeneration – taking in to consideration, sleep – quality and quantity and how well you recover from exercise.
Intensity – sweating and puffed out a little every day.
Optimal alignment – working on posture and position throughout the day. Technique in exercise sessions being key.
Responsibility – not blaming Boris, the weather or Doris’ pet tortoise. Accepting responsibility for your own health and that of your family. Checking in daily with what you need to do and doing it.
Broken down in to even more simple steps.
Drink enough water
Eat more vegetables
Sleep and feel rested
Move well and with intent
Do what you said you would
Pick one and get started; when you have that nailed, pick another one and add it to your day.
If you need a little help working out which one to start with, just ask.
Darren ‘WARRIOR’ Checkley
P.S. Why did I use WARRIOR as my acronym? I’ve been a martial artist for most of my life and been teaching for over 30 years. At times I have forgotten what that actually means. I am at my happiest when teaching and practising martial arts and every that encompasses.
We all have the ability to be our own WARRIOR, to be strong, a leader, fight for our corner, move freely and how it feels to powerful. My aim is to help all of our members feel that in their own way.
