Poppy went to sleep for the final time this afternoon, as a family we are heartbroken.

She has done well, she was 16 and lasted nearly a full year longer than Daisy.

Pop was a huge part of our lives.  Pets give you so much love and devotion, their whole lives simply enhance yours.

It’s going to be strange at home, tonight will be the first time since we moved in that we haven’t had a pup to give a fuss to before lights out.

Everyone who visited our house got a little bit of Pop love and attention, she was a therapy dog, waiting patiently under my treatment couch to let ‘our’ client give her ear a rub when needed.

Poppy snuggles helped our kids settle in and K always found calm and peace in her fur.

She used to go for a sleep over at our friends when she needed a bit of love, no amount of attention was too much; she would lap up every stroke, belly rub, treat, ear tug and tail pull.

The annual game of “where’s Poppy?” was always fun, she would hide around the house and tuck herself in during the firework season.  We haven’t played for the past few years because age took away some of her hearing and she couldn’t really hear them.

She has taken a little piece of my heart with her but left a little piece of hers in it’s place.

A reminder to be a little bit Pop each day, to live life fully in the moment and give freely to everyone you meet.

Her last bit of Pop today was chomping down a sock in one go as she went for the sausage roll that landed on it.
