“A” turned 7 today.
As we are away, he actually started celebrating last Wednesday and has continued through.
When we asked him what he wanted, he replied “it’s my birthday and I get to do what I want and I want to NOT go on a walk”.
Apparently, when we’re away on my birthday we always go on big walks.
So we took him to the zoo instead and I did just over 13000 steps keeping up with him.
I’m pleased it wasn’t the walking or exercising he was against but the just walking for walking sake that we often do in Cornwall along the coast line usually for some food.
It’s easier to do exercise if it’s not exercise. That’s why I personally love martial arts, I get to learn and practice new skills and get a proper sweat on.
Having a training partner that you don’t want to let down is great, as is being part of a group.
Training for something rather than exercising helps with consistency too.
Training for something doesn’t need to be sport or competition based, you know I do strength and mobility training to be a better Dad at the park and keep up with the kids.
You never know when you are going to need your body to perform. I didn’t know that when the kids heard a lion roar, which was amazing, they’d run off towards it and I’d have to keep up to not one them in the maze part of the zoo.
Find something that makes you sweat and be out of breath a few times per week for at least 25 minutes. Anything else is a bonus.
