I was chatting about the difference between athletes and us normal people earlier in the week.

The dedication they show to their sport and the consistency in their training.  Everything planned out to the finest detail to take them closer to their goal; which could be years down the line.

That mindset would work wonders for us normal people.

Having the outcome in mind and working towards it in every session.

It ties in with the whole having a bigger picture in mind, I’ve written about recently.

I don’t particularly enjoy weight training / strength sessions; whereas, I love being out on my bike or going for a run with my mates on a Sunday.

However, being stronger helps me enjoy the bike more and gives me the ability to do anything my kids ask of me at the park.

Side note – I picked up my son for the first time since my bike crash over 2 years ago yesterday with just my left hand.  It wasn’t smooth and I didn’t simply fling him up but it was a massive breakthrough for me and gave me the push to put more effort in today.

Fortunately, I have a friend who I train with and he turns up for our sessions so I have to do them.

I love joining in our online Bootcamp sessions, they combine strength and cardio.  I think it’s the sweating and camaraderie that does it for me.

Stop seeing exercise as a chore or something you “have” to do.  Find something that you want to train for or link a fitness result to something you value.  Mine is being an active, older Dad.

As Master Yoda put it, “train, you must”.
