The problem with being a 50 year old man who thinks he can function like a 20-something is it hurts more.
We took the kids ice skating this afternoon at Planet Ice in Coventry. They run a home education session and the kids have only ever tried once when it was freezing in the old Cathedral a few years ago, it didn’t go that well so wanted them to try again.
They enjoyed it a lot more today, some of their friends were there which helped, and they had polar bears to skate round with to support them.
I however, did not have a polar bear or penguin to hold on too. I remember ice skating in Solihull with friends as a teenager and getting on ok, I had some skills from roller skating.
Those skills were not retained.
Falling hurt a lot more than I remember too. I’m going to blame the hire skates rather than my inability to control them that led to me hitting the ice, I do still have some falling skills but Ice is hard.
Fran on the other hand, didn’t let ego get in the way and did her first few laps with a penguin, it built her confidence and she went steady, she didn’t see how fast she could go or try crossing feet or going backwards.
Having some support to build your confidence is a great way to get started in anything. A little coaching or guidance to ensure that you are on the right path.
If it’s anything to do with health and fitness, we’re here to help you.
