An injury therapy client asked me what the best exercises to do at the gym were.
He’s returning there after a bit of a break due to injury and life being busy.
If you read these messages regularly, you probably already know the answer.
The one‘s you like doing.
Of course, there are some I’d prefer to be included in a programme and there should ultimately be. Balance to correct any potential injuries. However, at first the most important thing is getting to the gym regularly, even if that is only for 10 minutes.
A poor programme followed consistently will outperform a world class plan done every now and again.
As we get older and I’m noticing it in myself, it’s good to focus on strength training and mobility. These have the greatest carryover in to real life.
Cardio type stuff is great and has many health benefits, it just doesn’t have the same effect on daily life unless your daily life involves doing said activity.
I’m not against cardio, I love to get out for a run, swim, ride or walk with my mates but everything feels easier when I’m strong and move freely.
To get even more benefits from cardio, get outside and do it in real life.
What’s your favourite exercise?
