We’ve just been to a bonfire at Ryton Organic Gardens, we get our weekly veggie box from there and they ran an event to celebrate the Winter Solstace.

It marks the shortest day of the year, which means from tomorrow there is a little more day in the day.

We had jacket potatoes cooked on the fire and some bread that we baked by wrapping the dough around a stick and holding over the flames.  Fran made some chilli too which was really tasty.

The kids played with their friends and we had a nice chat with ours.

And just like that, we’re at the end of another year; the days are getting longer and we’ll be thinking about what sort of summer we’ll have.

Now is actually the best time to start thinking about getting in shape for summer too, not leaving it until May or June and attacking yourself with an unrealistic plan that leaves you starving and broken.

I’m not saying to not enjoy Christmas, I know I won’t be holding back on the mince pies but to not take the pee.

Eat like an adult and still try to get a little exercise, even if it’s just a walk around your area to look at the Christmas lights.

Think about what type of exercise you enjoy and find options for you to start in the New Year.  There may be a few taster options available during the Christmas week.

Do the same with food and create a meal plan that you will enjoy and can stick to long term, it may take a little longer but will be worth it.

Obviously, if you need a little help with fitness and nutrition we have options to help.
