Somebody asked me recently “If somebody could focus on just one thing to lose weight what would you suggest?”.

They were expecting me to go with a type of diet or exercise to follow.

They are on the list but if you can only improve one thing, it has to be sleep.

I’ve banged on about it so much in the past I’m bored of myself. However, when you are tired it is much harder to make good food and drink choices.

You are actually physiologically programmed to seek out the quicker acting sugary foods.  You’re brain wants stimulation / caffeine to keep you going, which then leads to another night of poorer quality sleep and the cycle continues.

If you get a handle on your recovery you have a better chance of making informed decisions about what goes in your mouth and will actually be able to train with greater intent and intensity.

I’d then go for the more common:

Track your calories against your results.

Find an exercise programme that fits in with your life and you enjoy.  If possible with other people that will hold you accountable.

Reduce / avoid alcohol for a while.

Get those right and everything is gravy.
