One of my nutrition mentoring clients asked me about carb balance this week.

Whether it would be worth reducing carbs or not?

At the minute, everything is going well, energy is high, results are heading in the right direction and they’re finding it easy to stick too.  Which means, we don’t need to change anything.

That doesn’t mean we won’t have to but while everything is working, we’ll let them work.

Is there an ideal amount of carbs you need to have?

It depends.

My fingerprints are different to yours; in fact, every part of me is different to you.

How my body reacts to carbs, fat and protein is different to everybody else.  The process is pretty much the same but how much vitality is produced with each type can vary massively.

The aim is to find the balance that works for you right now.

You may thrive on carbs, in which case, have a higher proportion of your calories from that source.

Personally, I don’t feel sustained when I go carb heavy and feel hungry pretty quickly after.  That leads to me eating again and thus having to many calories.

I don’t have an off switch for sweet foods either, which means I can really munch some calories down.

My preference is to have meals that balance more towards the fat and protein side of the plate; I feel fuller for longer and thus eat less in total.

It’s trial and error to see what works for you.
