That’s the order I get dressed in when I get out of Stoney Cove after swimming in the lake.  The water was about 5.5°C on Friday and I was pretty cold when I got out.

We have been pretty much every Friday over the winter so far and this is our second year of winter swimming without wetsuits.

My hands don’t really function that well when I first get out, getting dry and my clothes on quickly makes a big difference to how I feel for the rest of the day.

Thus, the above order of getting dressed.

I’ve tried lots of different variations and this version speeds everything up and means that I get warm quicker.  A full English breakfast and a coffee also help 😉

Doing things in the right order makes a massive difference in pretty much every aspect of health and fitness too.

From skill acquisition to weight loss.

I can’t teach a Kung fu student how to do a jumping spinning hook kick on day 1.  They need to learn how to jump, jump and spin, jump, spin and land without injury before we add the kick in.  Then the kick itself requires strength, flexibility, timing, joint integrity and control.

Yet, I often speak to people who haven’t got the results they saw others get on social media for body transformation because they jumped in trying to do everything at once.

There’s an order to follow, particularly as we get older.

Sleep, nutrition, fitness.

Each with their own sub categories that make everything else easier.

I know I’m struggle to make great food choices when our sleep isn’t great.  I’m not where I thought I’d be on my own goals this year, Our boy is going through a particularly wiggly phase at the minute and that’s really affecting sleep quality and recovery.

Get sleep and recovery nailed and it’s easier to make better choices.

Make better food choices and more energy and vitality are available to exercise etc.

I’ll cover tips to get the basics sorted this week.
