The combination of the “Beast from the East” and Storm Emma over the last few days has resulted in some pretty horrendous weather.
Uncharacteristically for the weather channels, they predicted it and issued relevant warnings about not travelling in certain areas or routes.
People ignored this advice, which led to hundreds of motorists being trapped in their cars for hours on their journeys.  Not of all these could be avoided.  You have to get home from work etc.
However, Fran heard somebody on the radio complaining about being stuck for hours; he was taking his 80 year old Mum out to the coast for the day.
I guess the problem we have is that the advice from the weather has traditionally been a bit “hit and miss”.  Which then leads to us taking it a little less seriously and then getting caught out.
The same can be said for the government and media guidelines.
One minute you can eat eggs, the next can’t.  You should avoid fat, then sugar, next we’ll have to avoid water.
It leads to confusion and ultimately not knowing what to do.
This morning at bootcamp we discussed the whole reducing sugar thing.
Reducing processed added sugar is generally a good thing, we’ve been advising that for over a decade now.
However, the lack of clarity of information in the media has led to people avoiding fruit because “it is full of sugar”.
Technically, that’s true but in reality that sugar is in it’s most natural form and is part of a whole food that provides lots of nutrients and other things that are really good.
I’ve met people that have substituted a couple of pieces of fruit at lunch for a ‘special k’ bar because it has less sugar.  That’s just insane.
At Team Achieve, our nutrition plan is based around principles that aim to improve our members relationship with food and ultimately their health.
We can tweak it to out individual members and go with what works for them long term.  Consistency is the key to life long results.
100% is great but if it only last 3 weeks, it doesn’t get you anywhere.  Finding a balance where you are shifting inches and still feeling like your happy around food.  Should be your goal.
We can help with that.
Our next block starts on Monday.  Yes, it may be a little cold outside but you’ll soon warm up and get an awesome workout in.
